Question courtesy of sushi: What type of companies these days are still using green bar printers?

Basically the printers that are roll fed that are three sheets consisting of white, yellow and pink. When you write on the white, it transfers everything to the yellow and pink sheet. Then you tear off the sides with holes all the way down the side of each paper and thats how you separate them.

Basically, what industry still uses these things? Trucking, Machinery Company’s, Healthcare, etc. Does anyone know a specific industry that still uses these things?

There are still a lot of companies still using the “green bar printers”, also known as impact printers. Most often they use these printers for multiple copy printing for 2 – 6 part forms on OCR paper. A lot of them use them for the W-2′s they send out every year. Some still like the large format paper to look at and use. Printronix is one company I’m familiar with that is still in that market niche and still making new and updated impact printers all the time.

FYI – The “Green Bar Printer” printer nickname actually refers to the green & white barred paper that was originally used on these printers. Most commonly it was single part paper, but there were many others that went from 2 – 6 part forms normally. There were no specific colored papers for the different parts unless designated by the company requesting the forms.
