Go to Start / Run and type in “services.msc” without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.

In the window that opens (Services) look for “Print Spooler” on the right

Right-click “Print Spooler” and select “Properties”.

Click on the “Recovery” tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to “Restart The Service”.

Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say “1″ in them.

Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you’re good to go.

Go back into the properties of the “Print Spooler” tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.

The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

You need the Win7 driver for that printer. Go to the HP website, click Support and then Downloads. Find the drivers for that exact printer. You may find that the Win7 driver is not available. That would mean you cannot use it from the Win7 computer.

You can also contact the shipper and let them know of the mistake. If it’s UPS or FedEx the shipper can send in an address correction for the tracking number on your package, and it can be corrected before the driver even leaves to deliver it.

Artworks, texts, and provocations were created and sent ‘live’ in response to what was transmitted.

This event launched a world tour of FAX, curated by João Ribas.

If you scan the whole page at a very high resolution, you’ll still have plenty of size left for a slide show. It may not be enough to split them up into 6 decent prints, but it certainly will do for a screen.

If you think your SLR is up to the job, you could try it. You’ll need to rig up an inverted tripod of some sort.

Otherwise, if you attempt to scan it, you could risk ruining the album seams/spine.

Depending on the size of your scanner and the size of your album page, you may obviously need to scan each page two or even four times to get each picture (example: 12 x 12 album page being scanned on an 8.5 x 11 scanner). If the album page has a plastic protective layer, you would want to remove that first to reduce glare (unlikely given the 1920′s vintage of the album). Luckily, your photographs are black and white, so you won’t need to do much in the way of color-correction to make the resulting scans really pop. Be sure to maximize the quality of the scan by scanning in either 600dpi or 1200dpi.

In terms of using your camera as the “scanner”, much would depend on the quality of the camera and glass you have. If you have a full frame Nikon DSLR with good lenses, you may be able to get a high-quality digital image of each picture. You will want to make sure, however, that you have good natural ambient daylight for lighting when you take the pictures, stay away from indoor incandescent/fluorescent lighting, use a tripod to ensure a sharp picture, and keep the ISO settings on your DSLR as low as possible (100-200).

My guess is that you would get a much better resulting quality through a high-quality flatbed scanner. If you don’t have one, you might consider sending your photos to a slide scanning service.

The Brother PC Fax feature is a way to use the fax modem in the Brother machine to send a digital fax from your PC. It’s done using software that comes with the machine. But yes, you do need a phone line to use the service (same as if you were sending a paper fax).

I used this feature before I got my FaxLogic account, which lets me fax without a phone line. Since then, I’m paying $ 15/month for regular faxing plus computer faxing (fax-to-email, email-to-fax, web fax) vs. about $ 50/month for my analog business line.

My particular Brother (MFC-9840) also supports a different feature called “iFax”, that kind of works in the opposite way (it lets my Brother send and receive paper faxes without a phone line, but it also requires a service, and FaxLogic was the only provider I could find that supports the Brother iFax feature). But, even if your machine doesn’t support the iFax feature, you can still use it with FaxLogic using one of their Internet Fax Adapters (a little box that connects your machine to your Internet service); I’m using one of those for an HP all-in-one that I have.

You can’t. A printer is used to print out, not in. Some “office combos” can do it, but they are usually fax machines at the same time so photos aren’t very nice once they are in the computer. You will need a “scanner” in order to do that!

To some extent, you can use a digital camera to take a picture of a photo…it’s redundant, you’ll lose quality but if you just need that photo on your computer quickly, it can help!

open a browser (Internet Explorer) and go to your router’s IP where you would type in a web address (usually 192.168.1.1) and depending on the kind of router you have you will be able to navigate through your router to get a list of all devices pulling an IP on your network.

buy a switch that can handle all of your computers plus room for expansion, probably a 24 port would work for you

Rather than buying a switch and making your network even more complicated, I would suggest purchasing an additional hub. These are very inexpensive anymore.

A simple 5 port would do the trick, but leaves less room for expansion than buying a 10 port. (better long term ROI) Whatever brand or size you decide on, the one you purchase needs to have a crossover port. You plug this port into an open port on your existing hub (or port on your router should work also). Plug your three computers into this hub. Reboot them, they’ll get a new IP address on the other side of your network and voila!

Another option would be to attach the printer to one of the other PCs, and then you have use by ten and exclusion of three instead of vice versa.

Any printer attached to, and ‘shared’ from, a PC dictates that that PC be on anytime anyone wants to print – don’t forget, so be sure to pick one that fits the description of being on more often than off.

Disclaimer: This additional hub solution will solve your problem inexpensively, but I would urge you to consider why it was set up that way initially. Depending on what your former tech was thinking, you may introduce other problems when solving this one.

When I compare this to my old Xerox DocuPrint M750 inkjet of not that many years ago, this little printer beats it hands down both with the technology/quality and the price. I bought this one purely to print on CDs but now I’m using it for everything from envelopes to pornography because it’s so much quicker that my Oki colour laser. (And a darn sight cheaper to run too – this printer itself and a full set of 6 inks cost less than the black toner for the laser alone.)

There is a reason Epson have something like 60% of the small inkjet market in this country – they make much better printers!

What is probably happening is that there is a loose cable to your PCM. Making a right turn exacerbates the problem. Go in with the car running and tap on the box where you plugged the scanner in to and tap on the side of the box. It may be that the PCM needs to be replaced because of loose connections withing.

There is a fault, most if not all generic scan tools will not pick up U-Codes which are communication codes most often & all of them dont read Body Control Module or other NON PCM/ECM module codes as well. You will need a Tech 2 to do that. I suggest you take it to your nearest GM dealership & let them look at it.

You should check in your device manager to see what drivers you have for your scanner/printer. If you only have a generic one, sometimes this prevents you from utilizing all of the available features. Go to the HP website and input your printer/scanner model number under the help and support section then look for available drivers and download the latest drivers.

I would contact HP and check with them. It is possible that the patch did not fix the issue of Vista compatibility. As many programmers out there know, there is always a bug or two that goes missed.

Hi. This is the process for Epson scanners, but you could try it on your HP.

From Epson tech support:

Go to Epson and click CANADA AND UNITED STATES

Click on DRIVER AND FILE DOWNLOADS.

Select your product type (ie: ALL IN ONE OR INKJET)

Select your product from the list.

Select the most current version of the driver for your operating system.

Respond to the Download Survey and click SUBMIT.

Click ACCEPT on the END USER SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT.

Make a note of the file name and save the downloaded file to DESKTOP in order to easily retrieve it.

Once you have the file on your desktop right click it and select properties, select COMPATIBILITY then check the run this program in compatibility mode for. Now select Windows XP SP2. Select APPLY then OK.

Locate and double click on the downloaded driver installation file. If at any point in the installation you see a screen that says User Account Control select CONTINUE.

Click on OK at the first WinZip screen.

Click on UNZIP at the second WinZip screen.

Click on OK when WinZip is finished extracting files.

At the SCANNER SETUP screen, click on OK.

The installer will now copy files to the computer. When this step is complete, it will tell you to attach the cable and power on the scanner. Please connect the USB cable and turn on the scanner.

The computer will install the new hardware.

Click on OK when the driver installation is completed.

Hi There,

I just did that today and it worked very well.

My printer is connected directly to my desktop via USB (running Win XP Home) and that’s the printer I wanted to share on my network.

My network;

I have a Belkin wireless G router connected to a DSL modem. My desktop computer is wired directly to an ethernet connection on the router.

The laptop has a wireless card and it connects wirelessly to the router for it’s internet connection.

I wanted to print wirelessly from the laptop (using the desktop printer). So I had to set up a home or small office network with file and printer sharing.

It was easy to do.

I just ran the windows network wizard on the host machine (desktop) and turned on file and printer sharing.

Click on “Start” click on “My Network Places”

In the Network Tasks sidebar click on “Set Up a

Home or Small Office Network”

this opens up the network wizard (just follow the instructions)

Once the desktop (host) was “setup” I saved the settings on a thumb drive (an option that is part of the setup wizard) then ran the “ntsetup.exe” file on the laptop.

The wizard instructions tell you to run this setup file on all the devices on your new network.

In your case you would run the setup file on all the computers you wish to connect to this network.

Remember the “host computer” has the printer directly connected to it and that’s the one you set up as host. since you already have the printer driver files installed on the computer that’s connected to the printer you do not need drivers on the other computers.

What you may need to do to the other computers is open up the control panel and “add a printer”.

Click “Start” click “Printers and Faxes”.Your new shared printer should already be listed. If it is not listed click “add” and follow the instructions.

Mine was already listed and I did not have to do anything else.

i think graphic printers are the same as laser printer but with higher dpi and that can print on papers bigger than A4. and they are quite expensive.

share the printer from your desktop pc. You have to go to Printers, right click the printers and click sharing. Once you have that set, then you go through network connections and the printer should be there. Right click, and install. The printer driver will recognize the OS, and install the right driver.

On the desktop with the printer attached you must go to start/settings/ printers and then find the printer you want to share and click share this printer. Then on the laptop click the same thing but go to find a network printer and it will install the needed drivers to use the printer. But make sure right click my computer and go to properties / computer name /then look for the computer workgroup make sure both computers have the same workgroup name (you can change this to anything you wish but all shared computers must have the same workgroup name) requires restart if name is changed. Once all this you should be able to install the printer and begin using it

It means a Print To File printer (like Microsoft XPS Document Writer, PDF creator, etc.) is set as your default printer in Windows instead of the printer you want to print to or a “print to file” port is configured for your printer, so that whenever you print you are actually trying to create files with the print information in them on your computer’s hard drive.

Hopefully you’ve installed your printer (software, interface cable, etc.) onto your computer already, which it sounds like you did. Usually when installing a printer it will ask if you want this to be your default printer, check the box or select “Yes” as needed. This should take care of it, but if you didn’t do that when you installed it then you’ll need to do this:

A simple way to check and change the default printer is to open a document you wish to print, go to the menu bar at top and click on “File”, move down the pop-up window to “Print”… and click on it. In the Print pop-up window find your printer in the window at top and right-click on it and then click on “Set as Default Printer” then select Print or Cancel at the bottom. Now shutdown the application you used, otherwise it may still try to use the old printer selection. Now whenever you click on the print icon it will print out on your printer instead of going to a file.

If you still have the “Save As” problem then the problem is your printer is setup for the wrong port in the properties section of the printer setup, a “print to file” port instead of a standard communication port to your printer and you’ll need to change it.

The problem is your current port setting for your installed printer is set to “FILE: Print to File” and as such is printing the document to a file on your hard drive instead of to the port that your printer is actually connected to. Scroll through the list of available ports to find the port that your printer is connected to (probably USB {may be named like DOT something} or LPT1 or whatever you have) and check the box next to it and click the OK button at the bottom of the window – that should fix your problem.

For XP:

Go to “Start”, select “Settings” then “Printers and Faxes”

Right click on your printer and select “Properties”

Click on your “Ports” tab (then see below)

For Vista:

Click the Start button, then Control Panel, now Hardware and Sound, and then click on Printers.

Right click on your printer and select “Properties”

Click on your “Ports” tab (then see below)

Windows 7:

1. Click Start (orb) button and then click ‘Control Panel’.

2. Then click ‘view devices and printers’ option under ‘ hardware and sound’.

3. All the available printers will be listed under ‘printer and faxes’. Right click on specific printer and then click on ‘set as default printer’.

Go to HP’s web and download the drivers there but first uninstall the first printer and make sure the printer is not connected first then restart computer then install the one you got from HP then connect your printer.
