Challenge by halenstone2: How can I print wireless without using WiFi but using an existing printer and laptop?

I’ve tired & tried to get a linksys WiFi printserver to work on my network and have failed all 4678 times (give or take about 5 tries).

My Dell laptop does have bluetooth, the printer is an HP Deskjet 1220c wide format.

However there will be others printing from their desktops/laptops too. So if you could please keep that in mind when giving suggestions I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks.

the laptop will need to be switched on but you can right hand click on the printer from control panel and click share..

the printer will then be visable from other computers on your network.. just go to my network places in either xp or vista and it should be there.

Are you asking how to print from a laptop to a desktop printer? If so, heres what you do.

Go to the control panel and find your printer, I’m sure you’ll see it under one of the headings. Then right click on it and click “Share Printer” or “Share printer via network or blutooth” Then find out what you named the computer and the printer. Now on your laptop, go to control panel, locate where the printers are there (where they would be) and right click, add new printer. Then do what it asks you. If you have more questions ask me, I might not have explained that too well. And you have to use Wi-Fi.

By the fact that you are saying you have tried a wireless print server, I am assuming that you do have a wireless/wired network already in place.

If so then you can simply connect the printer up to one computer (most suitably a desktop) and then share that printer over your network, this is a simple process and on windows assuming that you already have file & printer sharing set-up then you just need to right click on your printer in the control panel, select share this printer, and it will be shared over the network.

From the “client” PC’s you then just need to browse to that computer over the network, and assuming they are all running the same OS then you can just double click on it and the drivers will be installed & it all will be set-up for you, just make sure you have the PC it is connected to switched on whenever you need to print.

I would hook the printer onto a desktop(using USB) on the network and then share it to everyone from that desktop.

Then on you laptop under control panel – printers and faxes – then click add printer.

select network printer then look for the coputer name that has the printer.
