I don’t know about scary but the most disturbing movie I have ever watched is “Martyrs”
It’s in french so you have to turn on your subtitles, but truly freaky. Netflix it

well its depends on people, but for me its THE GRUDGE the Japaness movie, I got sick of that movie my family cannot live me alone, its takes a month before i got better and starting from that time my Dad told my family that no one allowed to bring or watch horror movie while i am around

Depends on what one defines as “scary.”
In terms of gore, movies such as “Cannibal Holocaust,” “I Spit on Your Grave,” and most anything by Japanese director Takashi Miike such as “Audition” or “Ichi the Killer” can fulfill one’s need for excessive violence, blood and guts.
In terms of suspense or fright/shock value, “The Exorcist,” “Evil Dead,” “The Thing,” “Jacob’s Ladder,” “Hellraiser,” “Videodrome,” “Scanners,” “The Changling,” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)” are good by domestic standards, as well as the series of “dead” movies by zombie master George A. Romero. Anything by Romero is worth watching.
But if you really want to see some scary stuff you have to go overseas to movies like “Rec” (which “Quarantine” was based on,) “Ju-on” (the original “The Grudge,”) “Ringu” (the original “The Ring” which you seemed to enjoy,) “Naked Blood” (by Hisayasu Sato, another popular Japanese gore maker alongside Miike,) “Gates of Hell” (an Italian title,) “A Tale of Two Sisters” (by Korean director Ji-woon Kim) and “Art of the Devil” (a popular Thai horror flick.) Look for anything popular in the J-horror genre and you’re sure to hit gold.
Also look for older movies like “Eraserhead,” “Rosemary’s Baby,” or “Quatermass and the Pit” which, although old and in black and white, can still shock with the best of them.
Just don’t listen to anyone who recommends stuff like “The Shining” or “Silence of the Lambs.” Although they are great movies in their own right, they are nothing compared to what else is out there. Anyone who believes those to be truly “scary” movies is weak and knows nothing of the horror genre.
p.s. – “Event Horizon.” Hell yeah.
