I would hope so. It may depend on your car, though. A quick perusal of your owner’s manual may help.

Some of them have to be manually reset by whoever fixes the car. Darn computers.

On some older cars if unplug your battery for a couple of minutes then plug it back in it will clear.

no, you have to plug a hand held ,small computer into the diagnostic plug, generally located under your steering wheel, and punch in a reset code. the average do-it-yourselfer can buy these computers to do this and diagnose whats wrong with your car for about 150.00 dollars. i got mine at an auto zone store.

It all depends on the year of the car.

Again it depends on the car but Auto Zone will typically let you use (free of charge) their “OBD 2 scanner” which has a clear all codes feature. It is very simple to operate and only takes a few minutes.

When a problem arises with a car, the computer system sets a code in it’s database. A “scan tool” of some sort will clear the code or codes that the computer sets. Getting the problem fixed will not neccesarily turn the light off. It depends what was fixed. If you have the code cleared and the light turns back on, then it usually means you have another problem other than the one that was fixed.

Did you pay someone to to fix the problem. The had to have a computer to find out what trouble codes were that turned on the light. If the problem is actually fixed the light will go out eventually. I believe you will have to start the car and drive it about 40 times before it will go out. If it is not out take back to the guy that fixed it.
