There is no easy answer to that question. Some malicious websites can be spot by the wrong URL in the address bar of your browser, others by the lack of using SSL for transactions, et cetera. This is the only way that you can be sure.

You usually can’t.
Most sites that attempt to deliver malware do so WITHOUT the site owners knowledge or consent. Because:
a) the site was “hacked”
b) an outside advertising server not owned by the compromised site has been “hacked”.
Most sites that are malicious do not stay that way for long…once those in charge find out, the problem is eliminated.

One way you can find out is if you have Norton or AVG they will give you a tick or cross next to each website in the search but if you don’t have them look for things like loads of pop-ups and things like that because the more pop-ups and ads the more risk of something being infected.

Many ‘bad’ sites are not intentionally made that way.
Because of flaws or vulnerabilities in a wide range of aspects (such as the application used to create the site, or misconstrued elements within the site or the hosting services, for instance), crooks can compromise that weak aspect and get the site to behave in ways not originally intended.
This misbehavior will not always be a glaring mistake in text, or elements of a visible nature, but likely will be just the opposite: unseen components will have the problem source.
So “spotting” a malicious site (by visual methods) is not reliable, and surfers must use utilities that do all the ‘behind the scenes’ inspections to unmask them and alert when there’s a problem.
