It’s really simple, you just stand where they tell you to. If you want to opt out, say so before you go through the metal detector.

When you go through the security at JFK, they will most likely have the body scanners. When you get to security, show your boarding pass and government issued picture I.D. to the TSA agent. Then you remove your shoes and put them in a bin along with purse and jacket. All of that plus your carry-on luggage will be scanned. Another TSA agent will then tell you when you can proceed to the body imaging scanner. They will tell you to spread your feet apart a bit and raise 1 arm. Hold that position for about 7 seconds. Then you move forward and show them your boarding pass and picture I.D. again. They will then tell you if you have been cleared. Once that happens, gather your belongings, put your shoes back on and head to your gate.
