I have a printer with scanner and fax capabilities but, every time I look for it in the Systems Preferences, it shows the printer but says the scanner “can’t be found.”

It’s driving me crazy trying to fix the problem, b/c I don’t understand why it keeps telling me there’s no scanner when the machine is hooked up and the printer is being recognized.

So why won’t it recognize the bleeping scanner, and what do I do to fix it?

Go to the manufacturer’s website (HP, Xerox, Lexmark, etc) and download the driver for your scanner.

1. Make sure all of the drivers for your printer are installed. If they are, try re-installing them from your driver disk, and if that doesn’t work, install them from the internet so that they are up-to-date.

2. Check if your operating system is compatible with the printer if the above does not work.

3. On Windows 7, go to control panel and under hardware and sound and click view devices and printers to see if its there. Right click and go into it’s properties and make sure the device is enabled.

4. If none of these work, call customer service for your printer and if they can’t solve your problem return your printer and get a new one.

Go in control panel and click on Scanners and Cameras. The icon should be there if you installed it properly.

Another way is to disconnect the USB cable and do a fresh setup. Begin the setup and let the software tell you when to re-connect the USB cable to the computer. Reboot computer and windows will finish the setup automatically.
