Thank interview after sending?

Real question courtesy of senorita0307: Sending a Thank you note after an interview?

Ok, after an interview, I want to send a thank you note. But the guy I interviewed with actually works farther way. Would a “fax” thank you note, be tacky? I’m scared that sending it would take too long. Please help! Thanks!

Send the note, not the fax. I’m not sure what you mean by works farther away. As long as the mail service delivers it, why does it matter?

You could overnight it. I would send it regardless, it still shows that you sent it. I am not sure about the fax, if there is no other way, I suppose.

I would definitely send it. I think that faxing it would be tacky. If you were going to do that you might as well send an e-mail. Handwritten thank you notes are much more personal.

Good luck with the job!

A fax note is definitely tacky. You could send an email thank-you if you have his email address, but otherwise send the regular note through postal mail.

The fact that it will take a few days is actually the point – it will remind him of you again. Hiring decisions aren’t made right away, especially if they are still interviewing, so you’re not going to miss your only chance over the next day or two.

send a note if you feel you need to. A fax is not professional in that situation.

Don’t fax it. That is tacky. Not all fax machines print clearly and it generally just doesn’t seem professional. In my office, we get a lot of junk mail through the fax, a thank you letter might get thrown out with a stack of vacation and mortgage offers. Handwrite a note (neatly) and mail right after your interview. The same day or the next day. If you can’t do that, then I would consider emailing a sincere thank you. Just make sure you have a good email address, even if it means that you have to create a new one. As an administrative assistant, I see a ton of applications and resumes and it’s hard to take someone seriously who’s email address is sexigrrrl69 or something like that.

You can write one, sometimes faxes don’t get to the proper person.

When I got a thank-you from a Job applicant, I hired that person. She was one of the best employees we ever had

Faxing is as tacky and impersonal as email. Mail the note, it’s the only way.

sent it snail-mail. faxing would be kinda tacky, and an overnight letter seems almost pushy (in my opinion)

Good grief, people! Take some advice from a guy who once was in charge of hiring people after interview.

This is a business proposition, folks! Thank-you notes are convention of personal relationships. I was never too sure what to think about thank you notes when I received them. I’m doing my job, the applicant was doing his/her job -what’s the thank-you note about? It doesn’t overcome some fault that presented itself at interview, and wouldn’t cause me to choose between 2 otherwise equally qualified candidates (which never happened anyway). And I certainly don’t expect a note after the candidate goes on his/her merry way.

That said, there are 2 TYN exceptions: One is a follow-up letter from a job candidate to the interviewer to clarify what was said or add a thought or two to the interview. That tells me they’re thinking about it -a good sign. And naturally enough, such a note would conclude with some thanks for the time, etc. The other is that rare occasion when the interviewer and candidate actually do connect at some personal level -RARE.

Otherwise, a thank you note to the person -if any- who ARRANGED the interview for you (“got you in”) is perfectly acceptable.

Society today is cluttered with meaningless exchanges of gratitude and friendship -just look at the categories of greeting cards! Don’t let it infect the hiring process, too.

Send the note. Otherwise, you can see if you can send an email in the meantime — but still send the note!

Answer by rragsdaleii

Mail it. They don’t expect it the same day just make sure it is post marked the same day. But yes it would be tacky to fax it.

Send it traditional mail. Make it handwritten, legible, and on plain but good quality stationary. Do not send a tacky premade Thank you card. Reiterate points spoken during the interview and follow up with a “I look forward to our next meeting”. Or something to that effect. Good luck!!
