It wasn’t always that way. Personal computers/mice/keyboards/printers used to mostly be a beige color.

Some vendor changed theirs to black – probably to distinguish one model from another, and it stuck. If my old memory is right, IBM was the first to start selling primarily black computer gear.

Couple advantages to black. It doesn’t show dirt nearly as bad as that old beige/gray color. It’s easy for the plastic manufacturer to get the color right every time. Also the plastic manufacturer probably charges more for special colors, computer companies being cheap will always take the cheapest option providing it doesn’t effect form fit or function. Black is neutral color, it’s generally appealing/not displeasing to anyone.

the reason is most electronics is now in plastic cases. black coloring is from carbon with protects the plastic from UV deterioration plus it gives strength to avoid warping and is molded-in so no painting is required. back in the day when we had metal work cases, those were always painted and black was not particularly popular.

because it’s a color that matches with everything just like white, except that its easier on the eyes since its darker. Also, by using only one color, they save money on paint.

Also, if a company started selling only pink stuff, how many people would you expect to buy those products? It’s very likely they will buy another brand.

Do know far better?
